The Hire & Rental Industry Association Ltd (HRIA) serves as the primary national representative for Australia's $8 billion hire and rental industry, boasting over 500 corporate members. This diverse membership includes hire companies, suppliers, and service providers, ranging from large multi-location firms to individual owner-managers. The HRIA offers a variety of services to its members, such as an industry advice hotline, a 1800 contact number, master agreements, and specialised stationery options. Additionally, the Association produces a monthly newsletter and a quarterly magazine, Hire and Rental News, to keep members informed about industry developments.

The HRIA maintains a close affiliation with the Elevating Work Platform Association of Australia (EWPAA), which originally merged with the HRIA in 1994. However, in 1998, the EWPAA became an independent association to better serve its growing membership of over 700 rental fleet owners, manufacturers, and users.

The HRIA upholds a strict code of ethics that emphasises honesty and reliability in transactions, the maintenance of high equipment standards, knowledge sharing among members, and fostering cooperation with manufacturers and suppliers.
