Johnson Bros Hardware was established in 1955 by John and Bob Johnson in Rydalmere, before moving to Avalon in 1957. In 1989, they opened a second store in Mona Vale, which saw significant growth, prompting a relocation to larger premises at 51 Bassett St in 2003. In 2008, Johnson Bros Mitre 10 acquired Hardwoods Australia, rebranding it as JBH Timbers and Building Supplies to reflect an expanded product range. This allowed JBH Timber to operate within the same complex as Johnson Bros Mitre 10.

The business continued to diversify with the opening of JBH Fencing & Landscape Supplies in Narrabeen in 2014 and the takeover of Harper Timber in 2015, enhancing their offerings in custom timber products. In early 2017, Johnson Bros Mitre 10 moved again to a larger site at 73 Bassett St, consolidating their departments and improving customer access with separate entrances and ample parking.

Though John and Bob are no longer involved, their legacy continues through their children, who manage the stores. Johnson Bros prides itself on excellent customer service, serving both DIY enthusiasts and the building industry across Sydney's Northern Beaches and metropolitan area.
